While the days may be growing shorter, the list of our UI and performance improvements have only grown longer! This is predominantly a maintenance release to bring in support for Android 14 to our app. Also expect some minor UI adjustments, extra menu functionality, and improvements to playlist management.

Some people mark the arrival of Fall with an uptick in their pumpkin spice consumption, but we here at EM:RAP have chosen to usher in the spooky season with a chilling update to our Android app. We’ve added support for a brand new, spine-tingling DARK MODE. Now you can consume the same medical education you love in a format that’s sure to set your pulse racing.
Be sure to enable dark mode in your device’s system settings, because the app’s new look is a real scream.

Shaving can be tedious. Lathering up your skin, dragging a sharpened piece of metal across it, applying a tourniquet when things go horribly wrong. It’s no wonder people grow beards, but even beards need regular pruning to keep neat and tidy.
With this release, think of our iOS app as a beard. We’ve combed some of the tangly bits out of our user interface and even prepared a new way of alerting you to upcoming EM:RAP events.
So give this update a try! You’ll have never looked so dashing.

Our top priority in the waning summer months has been performance and stability. This release should improve load times across the board with a major update to how we load app content! We have also gowned and gloved up to take a surgical look at some issues which were affecting some specific devices.

It’s summer up in the northern hemisphere, but instead of kicking back with a cold one, we here at EM:RAP have been busy making improvements to our app. In fact, we’re rolling out a new series of in-app banners to let you know about new and exciting things you won’t want to miss. We’ve also cleaned up a few bugs and tidied up the visuals, and even fixed a critical memory issue that might have caused your app to crash from time to time. So go ahead and give this latest update a try!

Historians have studied history since its beginning, likely because—according to history—they were the ones who invented it in the first place. In keeping with this tradition, we here at EM:RAP have added a history playlist to the app. Now you can revisit past content via the library tab. We've also improved our notifications and deeplinks, and we've packed in a bunch of small bug fixes to keep your app experience smooth and easy. Keep tabs on your listening habits with this latest app release!

Spring has sprung, so we’ve tidied up our app. We dusted off our visuals, swept away our crufty start-up jokes, and even shook a few bugs from the rug so the app won’t crash if you background it during start up. We also tightened up our download system so we won’t use more than our fair share of storage space. What’s more, we added banners to let you know the moment we slip another new and delicious bundt cake into the oven. April showers bring EM:RAP flowers with our latest update!

Imagine you’re at the supermarket, having spent 10 minutes inspecting cantaloupes before going to the register—only to realize your cantaloupe coupon expired 3 months ago.
We can relate, so we’ve added a new banner to let you know when your subscription has expired. We’ve also added a new first-run experience, improved our download flow, and fixed up several performance issues.
Now, don’t forget to check the expiry date on your coupons. We don’t want you missing out on a deal for cantaloupe!

What rhymes with hugs and ruins a picnic faster than you can say ‘potato salad?’ That’s right: bugs. In solidarity with those of you chomping at the bit to get picnicking in this warm weather, we’ve taken to squashing as many bugs in the Android app as we can. We’ve spooned the ants out of the metaphorical pudding and waved the flies from the allegorical sandwiches, so the app will feel smoother than ever before. Enjoy your picnic and medical education with this latest EM:RAP Android app.

Like a teen with their parents’ old car, we at EM:RAP have had only one thing on our minds: speed. We wanted to make our app snappier, and what followed was more than just tinting the windows and slapping a beefy muffler on your dad’s Tercel. Instead, we improved the app’s startup while removing the need to pull to refresh.
We also now support jumping between the website and the app with the tap of a button. So give it a try, and see just how quickly you’ll get to where you’re going.

We’ve been busy fine-tuning our app lately, just like any good guitar player might do between sets. We’ve plucked its strings and twisted its knobs, and have even asked the sound guy to sort out the feedback. We’re primed and ready for our next gig. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the best-sounding medical education the Internet has to offer.

We here at EM:RAP have been busy preparing for a great big announcement that we can’t wait to share with you. We’ve washed the dishes and dusted our desks, and we’ve even taken the rugs outside for a good beating. What’s more, we’ve shaken the bugs out of our app, smoothed out the wrinkles, and dressed it in its Sunday best in preparation for what’s to come. So stay tuned, because we’re all giddy with excitement.

Our notifications have always told you about our latest and greatest EM:RAP content, but when pressed, they didn’t actually show it to you. Now those same notifications will link you directly to the content we want you to see. Playlists, episodes, even chapters and written summaries. Keep up to date with our latest announcements through our new notification system.
(You might want to keep an eye on those notifications for a special surprise-coming soon!)

It’s a little-known fact that when Bob Dylan sang “the times, they are a-changin’” he was referring to the EM:RAP Android app and its new vertical video support. Simply enter full-screen from the player and reorient your phone, and we’ll take it from there.
There’s also a new Library tab where you can manage all your downloads, favorites, or create your own custom playlists.
We’ve also squashed a number of visual bugs. The times are indeed a-changing, and so too is the EM:RAP Android app.

Camping season is here, and what better way to relax than by watching EM:RAP HD videos around the campfire? We know how important it is to connect with nature while staying informed, so in preparation for summer we’ve added EM:RAP HD video downloads for offline playback. Now you can download any HD episode you want, and then view them from the comfort of your own tent. So pack your bear spray and your phone, and keep up to date with the latest EM:RAP HD content, no matter where you happen to be.

Einstein said the closer you get to the speed of light, the slower time passes for you. We’ve taken a cue from his theory of relativity and improved our playback speed menu in the Android app. We’ve also fixed a few bugs in order to keep the app from spiraling into the nearest wormhole.
Whether you need to fit an hour-long chapter into 40 minutes, or you’re just curious what it’s like talking to someone stationary as you approach the speed of light, this update is sure to fit your needs.

Don’t you hate it when you pick up a book you’ve been reading, only to discover your kids have removed your bookmark and-somehow-eaten it? Finding where you left off can waste precious minutes. We know the feeling, so now the app will resume where you left off-just press play! Also, playback will now pause when interrupted by external audio. We’ve also made several small internal improvements to keep our app happy and healthy.

Remember that notebook you had as a kid, the one you’d written the titles of all your favorite songs in? Remember when your teacher docked you marks because “Stairway to Heaven” had nothing to do with your homework? Well the faculty at EM:RAP know how important lists of favorites are, which is why we’ve built chapter-level favoriting into the app. Now you can tag chapters as you browse or listen, then reveal them all in the favorites tab. It’s just like that old notebook of yours, but better!

Remember when TVs came with a set of rabbit-ear antennae? Remember those Saturday mornings, how you’d get up from the rug to fiddle with them each time the sound and picture cut out, and how mushy your bowl of cereal would get in the process? We do. The EM:RAP app has been reminding us lately, each time its audio would cut out.
Well, we’ve fiddled with the app so the sound should carry on like normal now. Give it a try. We can't promise you'll hear it over just how crunchy your cereal will be.

If a horologist tinkers with watches, then what do you call someone who tinkers with apps? An appologist? We ask since that's what we've been up to lately: tinkering with the innards of the EM:RAP app, replacing cogs and springs in an effort to keep things ticking along. You might only notice some of these changes, like how Crunch Time EM and FM have been moved out of the Main Episodes feed, but we've made plenty more internal updates which will contribute to the general well-being of the app.

Anxious to know the exact moment a new EM:RAP episode goes live? We've got you covered! We just made our notifications even better! Now Android users can control which EM:RAP alerts you receive and whether or not they make a sound. Or maybe you prefer quiet notifications, that kind which don't scare you out of an afternoon siesta? That's okay too! However you do it, keeping up to date with EM:RAP has never been easier than with this latest update.

There was a nasty rumour going around that the app was crashing for some of you. At first we thought, our app? How could that be? Alas, it turned out to be true, so we dropped everything and put the kettle on and stayed up way past our bedtimes to fix it. Now the app will remain running when you start it, just like it was intended to do.

-Play notification no longer remains once playback finishes—unlike Odd Uncle Jimmy, who stuck around even after the Thanksgiving leftovers were put away.
-Play Chapter button re-enables once playback stops, now that we've given it a stern talking-to.
-The app no longer forgets your progress, unlike Granny, who forgot your kids' names at Thanksgiving dinner.
-Improved the media player under the hood. Like listening to your usual shows on a new radio, it sounds the same but feels much nicer.
